What are Restorative Practices?
Restorative Practices are a framework for building community and for responding to challenging behavior through authentic dialogue, coming to understanding, and making things right.

The aim of Restorative Practices is to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and restoring relationships.

The underlying premise of restorative practices is simple:  that human beings are happier, more productive and cooperative, and more likely to make positive changes in their behavior when those in positions of authority do things with them, rather to them or for them.

San Marino Unified School District provides professional development opportunities in Restorative Practices to further cultivate a culture of community, inclusivity, and authentic relationships. Commencing 2023-24, SMUSD inaugurated a districtwide Restorative Practices Training of Trainers Cohort in partnership with Karen Junker, an expert in Restorative Practices to build capacity and expertise in Restorative Practices.
