Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. These attacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information; extorting money from users; or interrupting normal processes. Implementing effective cybersecurity measures is particularly challenging today because there are more devices than people, and attackers are becoming more innovative. K-12 education is susceptible to cyber-criminals. K12 faculty must educate students AND staff must continue to be educated to defend against cyber-attacks.
SMUSD proudly participates in the Cybersecurity Education Program (CEP), which is a research-based and comprehensive online course designed to engender a culture of cyber-secure, cyber-aware, and cyber-enabled workforce. The California Department of Education helped to develop CEP and has made the program available to all K-12 schools at no cost. SMUSD staff participates in CEP annually.
