SAN MARINO, Calif. (August 25, 2025)–Congratulations to first-grade teacher Julie Poladian and fourth-grade teacher Kellee Sung for being named Outstanding Educators by California Assemblymember Mike Fong.
Both teachers were nominated for the award by students, colleagues, and community members throughout the San Gabriel Valley. The award recognizes educators from the 49th Assembly District who have displayed dedication, passion, and tireless efforts to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders.
“Receiving this award serves as a testament and reminder that building meaningful relationships with students equates to impact," said Miss Poladian. “I see how the relationships I have built with my students do not come to a halt in June but continue after they leave my classroom. I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized in this capacity, but I certainly wouldn't be here without my fellow educators and coworkers who helped pave the way for me.”
Both teachers bring a wealth of teaching experience to the San Marino community. This is Mrs. Sung’s fifth year and Miss Poladian’s third year teaching at Valentine. Mrs. Sung previously taught for four years at Carver Elementary School and for two years as an intervention specialist at Arcadia Unified. Miss Poladian previously taught for four years within Los Angeles Unified School District.
“I love teaching and give my all to it because I care deeply about the children in my classroom and the people they are becoming,” said Mrs. Sung. “I feel deeply honored to be recognized and will continue to see the potential in each child. I have learned that children can soar and reach new heights when someone believes in them. I am so thankful to the fourth-grade team at Valentine who work tirelessly to meet our students' needs and keep learning fun and engaging.”
Mrs. Sung and Miss Poladian will be honored at an awards ceremony hosted by Assemblymember Mike Fong on September 13, 2025. We are so proud of our educators for mentoring and leading the next generation!
