SMUSD Announces 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year

San Marino Unified School District is proud to announce its 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. Scott Barton, a teacher at San Marino High School, and Lisa Herren, a health aide at Carver Elementary School, were recognized during the District’s annual End-of-Year Breakfast for all staff.

Barton, who has served San Marino Unified for 19 years, is a dedicated educator and leader whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. He has played a key role in the success of the school’s Titanium Robotics Team, helping lead the team to the World Championships last year. In addition to his work with robotics, Barton teaches Honors Physics and AP World History, inspiring students through his passion for learning and innovation.

Herren joined the District in 2021, shortly after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing support during a time of uncertainty and transition. Since then, she has become a welcoming and trusted presence on campus, caring for students with compassion and professionalism. Whether helping with bumps, bruises, or everyday concerns, Herren consistently ensures students feel safe, supported, and valued.

Congratulations to these outstanding individuals, who exemplify the dedication, excellence, and service that define San Marino Unified School District. We look forward to honoring them throughout the 2026–2027 school year as representatives of our district and its commitment to student success.
