SMHS Mock Trial Team Snags Third in LA County Competition

San Marino High School

(San Marino, CA)- San Marino High School’s Mock Trial Team delivered a standout performance in this year’s Los Angeles County Mock Trial competition, rising to the top among nearly 100 participating teams.

“Out of 94 teams, we placed third in the county, with a team of 15 people, while other teams have over 100 people, " said Julien Collet, Mock Trial President and SMHS Senior.

The third-place finish was the highest placing for a public school in the competition. Winston Chou, a San Marino High School senior, was recognized as an Outstanding Prosecution Attorney. The group of fifteen, spanning grades 9–12, acted as attorneys, witnesses, a court clerk, a bailiff, and courtroom artists.

The team is coached by San Marino High School Employee, Summer Cervantez and San Marino Resident and attorney Diane Evans.

“This season, each team member showed up with their ‘A game’ to every round,” said Evans. “We are a young team and consider this a rebuilding year after losing many key seniors last year. This speaks to the tremendous potential that will unfold in the next several years!”

For the students, the high-place finish is a testament to their team chemistry.

“The best thing about competing in Mock Trial is the teamwork," said Tabitha Han, Senior. “I'm incredibly proud of how our team did, but more so how we worked together.”
