The Committee's mission is to support and advise the Board of Education by, pursuant to the Board's direction, researching and evaluating policies and programs that optimize the TK-12 student academic experience. The Committee consists of persons who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of San Marino students, including parents of current or former students, alumni, and teachers. In addition, the Committee includes ex officio representatives from the Board of Education, the Superintendent's office and SMHS teachers. The Committee’s focus areas for the 2017-2018 school year include: (1) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), (2) Homework Policy, and (3) College/Career Readiness.
Committee members shall be residents of the District, employed within District boundaries, or have a student enrolled in the District. Members serve a three-year term and attend regular meetings, either monthly or quarterly, on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. during the school year. Members may also serve on ad hoc subcommittees related to the Committee’s focus areas.
Persons interested in serving during the 2017-2020 school years should complete the online Advisory Committee Application outlining their background and any special interests or skills that they believe will contribute to the Committee's mission. Applications must be received by the Superintendent's Office no later than Friday, August 11, 2017, at 4 p.m. Questions or submissions may be emailed to Superintendent@smusd.us . Applications will be considered by the Board of Education during its September 12, 2017 meeting, and successful applicants will be notified by email thereafter.
