 FLU INFORMATION

The San Marino Unified School District is committed to providing the most up-to-date information on the H1N1 Flu for parents, staff and students. We are working closely with the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department and local and state educational authorities regarding the H1N1 issue. On a District-wide level, all classrooms, all restrooms, and athletic and auxiliary facilities are cleaned daily based on a checklist of items prepared by the Maintenance and Operations Department.  All classroom air filters are changed out every six months with a specialized filter that contains anti-microbial material. Schools have posted universal precautions and flu recognition information in classrooms and staff have instructed students about flu prevention practices. All students have access to anti-bacterial soap and water for hand washing as well as hand sanitizer solution in each classroom and all athletic facilities. Hand sanitizer stations at each of the cafeteria lines are in place. The District's Health Coordinator, school site health office staff, and parent volunteers are educated and informed on what to look for when identifying flu-like symptoms and precautionary steps are taken. Staff and students with influenza-like illness or symptoms should remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and should avoid contact with others.
